This poems uses literary techniques such as repetition and slang. Repetion is used by saying "good times." this shows how times were bad yet they are getting better. the family did not have enough money to pay the rent and then they did. the could have power again and could have fun. They were good times. Everyone was dancing and having fun now that they paid rent. Slang and poor grammar were used as well. This can be seen in the line "The lights is back on," and " and "Grandpaw has come." This shows that the family is lower class and probably does not have a lot of money. The family is very happy with what little they have gotten.
When i read this poem I thought it was about an african american family. This is because of the poor grammar and use of the word "grandpaw." These stereo types set by society makes ones mid think in a certain way. I also felt happiness for the family that they got enough money to have power again and good be happy themself.
